This song was written and produced by my dear friend from Naropa, and it has stayed with me for a whole life. All about how we galz often get treated by the bad boyz we often love. When she first played it at Penny Lane Beat Poetry and Coffee House in Boulder Circa 1990, I was so moved, I had to go outside and cry for a brief sec. She’s indeed a powerhouse, and for sure, deserves a permanent place on my fem-Goddess-voice blog.

Crying

Written By: Libby Kirkpatrick

it was a sweet success
i took off my dress
and i made a mess
and just because you thought that i was lonely
i’d be your only one
you expected nothing less
you took the dim light
right from my eyes
with your criticizing
it was so amazing
stole the wind
right from my sails
and you turned to leave me
but i caught you – i nailed you
you should be crying
for your shame
for your lying
and your blaming me
and you ought to be begging
for forgiveness
for lighting the flame in me
if you didn’t mean
to get involved with me
to babydoll me
you shouldn’t have called me
it was in the light
you looked so nice
but your dark side
shone twice as boldly baby
don’t try to tell me
in your sneaky way
how you’ll love me tomorrow
like you should have today
it won’t matter
by the break of dawn
i’ll be gone
i’ll be well on my way
don’t you come around here boy
and ask me what im doing
doing what i do
doin’ it without you
and if you are wondering
where i am tonite
well keep it right
don’t you leave the light on for me
darlin’
i suppose u think i’m joking
if you could look into my eyes
you’ll see
i’m not jokin’
sit there slanty eyes and smokin’
practically choking on your own lies
i can see it in your eyes
you should be crying
down on your knees
and grieve for me
liar
fool
beggar
thief
weep for me
darlin’
you should be crying
for your shame
for your lying
for your blaming me
you ought to be begging
for forgiveness
for lighting the flame in me
